Location Notes: Susan photographed the Bounder as she followed in the RAV on the last stretch of the first leg of our journey; Colrain to Fayetteville.
The problem was finally identified; a solidly fouled in-line fuel filter tucked into the chassis midway to the engine, so rusted and blocked it may not have been changed since it was installed. This redundant, unnecessary, mystery filter was used instead of a coupling to connect two sections of fuel line... Obviously someone went to collage!
Cost in time and labor to deduce the existence of this $4.00 filter was $200.00... including a replacement and sales tax
To date, we lost ten days from two causes of breakdowns and their eventual diagnosis and repair; pealing gas tank liner and a plugged fuel line filter. Now the problems were finally resolved... I hoped! The necessary replacement of the 100 gallon fuel tank and the $4.00 'mystery' filter cost a total of $3,201.59, including $713.73 in reimbursed towing charges from the Allstate Auto Club
